A whole host of commemorative events are taking place in a Moorlands town tomorrow to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.
Remembrance Sunday in Leek will begin at 9am with a parade from Market Street to St Edward’s Church for a service at 9.30am, which will be followed by a parade at 10.30am from the church to the Nicholson War Memorial for an outdoor service at 10.50am.
In the afternoon at 2.30pm, there will be another outdoor service, this time at the Ball Haye Green War Memorial in Haregate.
At 4pm, a Peace Concert entitled ‘1914-1918-2018 -the War that began all Wars’ will be hosted by the Peace Through Folk organisation at the Foxlowe Arts Centre.
At 7pm, candles will be lit at the Nicholson War Memorial to coincide with the national Beacon of Light event and Leek Town Crier Bill Lomas will shout a ‘Cry for Peace around the World’.
Meanwhile, also at 7.05pm, churches in the area will ring out their bells in celebration of Peace as part of the national Battle’s Over event.
