Appeal for Information after Sexual Assault in Hanley

Police are appealing for information following reports of a woman sexually assaulted in Hanley.

Officers were called to Hope Street, Hanley where it is believed the incident took place at around 6.30am this morning (Sunday 16 January).

It is reported a woman was approached by an unknown man. He then sexually assaulted her.

A 22-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently in police custody.

Police are appealing for further witnesses who may have seen the incident.

The man is described as Caucasian, around 5ft 7ins in height, and it is believed he was wearing a puffer coat and black tracksuit bottoms.

Detectives are continuing to investigate.

Emma Roach, Detective Sergeant at Staffordshire Police, said: “The woman is receiving ongoing care from specialist trained officers.

“We ask people in the area, and the areas surrounding, to review any CCTV or dash-cam footage they may have – you may well have captured the offender on camera and be able to give us valuable information about his direction of travel.

“I would like to reassure the community that we have a number of officers working on this case. We also have additional patrols in the area of the incident.”
