Campaign Helping People Look After Their Physical and Mental Health Over Winter

Families from across Staffordshire are benefiting from a campaign offering hints on keeping themselves healthy and happy during the winter months.

The ‘Do It to Feel Good’ campaign by Staffordshire County Council is reminding people of the importance of looking after their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

The campaign offers practical advice on keeping healthy as well as signposting people to other support services available locally.

77-year-old Janet Warne is one person who has grabbed the opportunity with support from Everyone Health Staffordshire who provide lifestyle services in the county.

Janet is now enjoying exercise classes at home and keeping in touch with people virtually during lockdown. She said: “I always use to go to the gym, but since having operations on my hips and knee I got out of the habit. I wanted to get back in to exercising but it needed to be something that I could cope with and would get me motivated again.

“I especially enjoy the online exercise classes as they are easy to follow, the instructor really motivates me, and I can build up my levels of activity slowly. I always feel so much better for doing a class. I wanted to lose weight and keep active during lockdown and Everyone Health has helped me to achieve that.”

Dr. Johnny McMahon, Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing at Staffordshire County Council said: “Looking after your physical and mental health and wellbeing is really important and can help people live a healthier, happier life.

“There are some easy steps that you can take in order to improve how you feel each day and ensure you’re keeping active – whatever your age, ability or fitness level. And, this doesn’t mean spending hours working out or running a marathon. Janet is a good example of how keeping more active not only keeps her fit but also makes her feel much better about herself.

“Remember, The Doing Our Bit website has loads of useful tips and advice to help you boost your levels of physical activity, as well as activities to keep your mental health strong too. It’s sometimes the simple things that can make a difference. So, Do It to Feel Good.”
