Canal bridge cordoned off as it shows signs of collapse

A bridge along the Cauldon canal between Leek and Endon has been cordoned off by Police as cracks have started to appear.

The Cauldon canal originally opened in 1779.

Bridge 37 in Longsdon near the Hazelhurst Locks has been cordoned off by Police and the towpath closed as large cracks have appeared in the stone bridge.

This section of canal has been closed since February 17th as repairs take place on the lock gates.

The locks had been due to reopen on March 13th It is unclear if this is still the plan.
