All schools in the UK will close for the foreseeable future in the fight against coronavirus.
It was previously announced that schools in Scotland and Wales would close from Friday
Schools in Northern Ireland are also set to close.
The Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, has announced in the House of Commons that all schools in the UK will close from 5pm on Friday until further notice.
The schools will remain open for children of “critical workers” this includes children of NHS staff, Police officers, delivery drivers for essential products.
Vulnerable children will have provisions made for them.
Schools will have to ensure that measures are in place.
This it to help keep the economy afloat
Boris Johnson said the aim is to slow the spread of the virus.
Private schools and nursery’s have been asked to do the same.
Boris Johnson has said vouchers or provisions will be made available for those who receive free school meals.
Boris Johnson also said that children should not be left with elderly relatives and those who fall into “at risk” categories.
The prime minister said that this is now the right time to close the schools, not because it is a dangerous place but because it can prevent spreading and put some delay into the system.
