Interim Chief Executive Officer for Integrated Care Board announced

Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent’s Integrated Care System (ICS) has announced the appointment of Peter Axon as the Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the anticipated Integrated Care Board (ICB).

Peter Axon, currently the Chief Executive of North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust (NSCHT), will take on the leadership role – as agreed regionally by NHS England and NHS Improvement.

Prem Singh, Chair of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICS, said:

“Peter is well-established within the system and is highly respected. He has a strong collaborative style and approach, with a finance background and previous executive experience in commissioning and community services. As the Chief Executive of an outstanding mental health trust, he is well placed to take on this system role. He knows the system well and has played a key part in our ICS development journey.

“There is a huge amount to do within the ICS in the coming months: supporting the system to get through the significant pressures of COVID-19 and winter, improving our performance and delivery, and transforming care for local residents. With his knowledge of the system, as well as his established relationships, Peter will be able to step into the role seamlessly to establish our ICB by April 2022.

“I would like to place on record my appreciation and thanks to Simon Whitehouse and Marcus Warnes for their contribution to date and their continued leadership.”

Peter Axon, Interim Chief Executive Officer for the ICS, said:

“I feel privileged to be leading the ICS and ICB at this formative stage. We have much to be proud of in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, and I am looking forward to working with partners and our amazing workforce to truly integrate health and care for local communities.”

The ICS is now starting the process of recruitment to the Board for Executive and Non-Executive roles, to develop the capacity and capability to undertake the functions of the ICB. This includes advertising four Non-Executive Director roles for the ICB. More information on how to apply can be found on the ICS website.

The above arrangements will enable the ICS to move forward as a system and undertake all that needs to be done to establish the Integrated Care Board by April 2022.
