Kidsgrove up to 2nd in the league table with win at home to Market Drayton Town

Kidsgrove Athletic continued their unbeaten start to the 2020/21 Pitching In Northern Premier League season with a 3-0 win over winless Market Drayton Town.

Jake Lovatt opened the scoring for Kidsgrove in the first half before Jack Bromfield scored his first goal for the club after the break. Kyle Diskin then made the game safe with a great goal with 10 minutes to go.

The Grove took an early lead just seven minutes into the game when Diskin crossed the ball into Lovatt who had a simple task of putting the ball past Sam Aguis to open the scoring. It was a fantastic start for Kidsgrove against a side that is normally tricky opponents for the North Staffordshire side.

Diskin could have made it 2-0 five minutes later when he hit a free-kick which Aguis tipped over the crossbar. It was an effort that the free-kick master David Beckham himself, would have been proud of taking.

Market Drayton are yet to win a game this season but, they had a glorious chance to make it 1-1 on the half hour mark when Brendan Price should have turned home a cross from the right hand side, however, he put his effort wide of the post when many were expecting the ball to hit the back of the net.

The Grove added their second goal of the night on 54 minutes after Adu-Gyamfi did well to work a chance at goal by gliding past three defenders. However, his shot was saved by Aguis, but the rebound fell to Bromfield who smashed the ball into the net for his first goal for the club.

Josh Thorpe could have made it 3-0 when he connected to a Diskin free-kick just moments later. However, Aguis was able to deny him his first goal for the club.

Diskin ensured the points were staying with Kidsgrove on 79 minutes when he skipped past two defenders and cut inside. He then bent the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net for 3-0.

Kidsgrove goalkeeper Kieran Harrison was a spectator for the majority of the game, that was thanks to the defence snuffing out any Market Drayton attacks. It means that Kidsgrove have now kept four clean sheets in five league games, only Chasetown’s Joey Butlin has scored past Kidsgrove in the league season.

The result sees Kidsgrove move up to 2nd in the league table, level on points with early league leaders Belper Town who have played two more games this season.

Meanwhile, Market Drayton Town remain 19th in the league table and on the following day they parted company with their manager Dan Stevens after 12 months of being in charge.

After the game Kidsgrove manager Scott Dundas spoke live on Moorlands Radio.

Scorer of the third goal Kyle Diskin spoke on air as well.
