In the Championship Stoke City chucked a 2 goal lead away at Sheffield Wednesday. Benik Afobe scored twice to give the Potters a cushion but the home side gave themselves a chance when Matias pulled a goal back. Wednesday then ensured they got a share of the points through a superb 30 yard free-kick by Barry Bannan.
In League 2 – Port Vale scored twice without reply to claim the three points against Northampton Town. Ben Whitfield opened the scoring on 24 minutes and Manny Oyeleke sealed the win with a superb strike on 69 minutes.
Macclesfield Town suffered another home defeat at the Moss Rose. Lincoln City took the lead on 21 minutes through Pett. Grimes then levelled the game for Macc only to see his side concede a later winner through Shackell.
Buxton thrashed Stafford Rangers 4-1 in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
In the Evo-Stik Division 1 West Division – Leek Town thumped Ramsbottom United in our live commentary game at Harrison Park. Goals by Stevenson, Trickett-Smith, Johnson and a Chadwick penalty secured an emphatic win for the Blues.
Kidsgrove lost 1-0 at home to Atherton Colleries. Grove squandered a number of chances before Gaul grabbed the winner for the visitors.
Newcastle Town earned a credible draw at home to table topping Radcliffe. Orlando-Young’s equaliser cancelled out Payne’s opener for the visitors.
In the FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round Hanley Town thrashed Dudley Sports 4-0 away to advance into the next round.
In Hallmark Securities Premier Division – Congleton Town beat West Didsbury & Chorlton 4-1 at home.
In Division 1 South – Abbey Hulton United got back to winning ways by thumping Stone Dominoes 4-0 and Eccleshall defeated Alsager Town 3-1 in a convincing home performance.
In the Staffs County Senior League Premier Division – Leek CSOB beat Alsager Town Reserves 2-0 away to remain top of the table.
In the North Staffs & South Cheshire Cricket League Premier League – Ashcombe Park travelled to Blythe and came away with a well earned draw in a weather effected match. Leek hosted JG Meakins and managed to bowl them out cheaply for 118. The opportunity for a much needed win was lost though as the visitors bowled out Leek for just 79.
In Division 1 – Cheadle lost away at Eccleshall – Carverswall lost at Weston and Knypersley beat Little Stoke away.
