In the Sky Bet Championship Stoke City gained a much needed away win at Bristol City. A 33 minute strike by veteran midfielder Darren Fletcher was enough to ensure The Potters took all 3 points.

In Sky Bet League Two, a Tom Pope goal gave Port Vale the win at Vale Park against Bury. Macclesfield Town suffered yet another defeat away at Cambridge United. They lost 1-0, a defeat that leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table.

Leek Town will have a Tuesday night outing at Harrison Park following their 0-0 draw away at Lincolnshire side Stamford in the FA Trophy. Buxton came from being 2-0 behind at home to King’s Lynn to take a 3-2 lead with just 10 men but they conceded a last minute equaliser. They too replay midweek.

Kidsgrove Athletic’s FA Trophy home game against Yaxley had to be postponed pending an FA investigation into Grove fielding an ineligible player in the previous game. They could be kicked out of the competition as a result.

Newcastle Town thumped Chasetown 5-2 at home in their Trophy game in what was an ill tempered affair at times. Chasetown were reduced to 10 men when Jon Beaumont was shown a straight red card for a nasty challenge on Rod Orlando-Young. The visitors then conceded 3 quick goals.

In the Hallmark Premier Division Congleton Town beat Northwich Victoria 3-1 away. It wasn’t such great news for Hanley Town though as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Padiham, despite changing their entire management team midweek. In the First Division South – Abbey Hulton United beat FC Oswestry Town 2-1.

In the Staffs County Senior Leek Cup competition Leek CSOB beat Wolstanton United 2-0.

Leek Hockey Club Men’s first team travelled away to 3rd placed West Bridgford and came away with a very credible 2-2 draw in the T1 Midlands Premier Division. Leek Women’s First team also did very well to draw 0-0 away at 2nd placed Boots Ladies in the Midlands Women’s League First Division.

In Rugby Union, Leek 1st XV lost 40 points to 19 in the Midlands 2 West (North) Division.

  1. Local sport really is doing fantastic in Staffordshire just lately! All our local football sides should be proud of what they are achieving.
