Police issue statement following viral video showing Taxi driver facing racial abuse


A video of a Taxi driver in Stoke-on-Trent showing them being subject to racial slurs by a passenger has gone viral across social media. A video we will not be posting due to the nature of the content.

In the video posted online the passenger chants “England till I die” amongst other racial abuse towards the driver.

The taxi driver also hands over cash after it being demanded by the unruly passenger who then asks to be taken home to Cheddleton.

Stoke-on-Trent police have issued a statement

“We’re aware of a video that has recently been circulating on social media involving a hate crime. This relates to an incident that was reported to us in August 2019 where a taxi driver was subjected to threats and abuse. At the time, police were informed and dealt with all parties involved in the matter and supported the victim. We are investigating as to why this video has now been posted. Hate crime will not be tolerated and we takes reports of such incidents seriously. We have again spoken to the victim to check on their welfare and continue to offer them support. Any person who believes they have been a victim of a hate crime can contact us via 101.”
