Proposals have been put forward to demolish a Moorlands pub and turn the site into a new housing development.
A planning application has been submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands for the demolition of The Travellers Rest in Leekbrook and the redevelopment of the site for up to nine dwellings.
The planning statement which accompanies the application states that the “proposal involves the demolition of the public house in order to facilitate the development.
“The pub has struggled over the years to be profitable, with numerous attempts by different tenants/owners to make it a viable operation.”
The statement further explains that the site has previous planning permission for the change of use of the former pub into a retail business, after one firm showed interest in purchasing the site. However, after the planning permission was gained, the prospective purchaser pulled out, and further to further marketing, no other purchaser has come forward for such a retail site, and so the decision was then made to pursue re-development f the site, including the demolition of the public house, instead.
