Local schools will be supported as much as possible by Staffordshire County Council during the partial closures of the next few weeks.
Following the Department for Education announcement of a delayed return to school for some pupils in January, the county council will be liaising, where needed, with Staffordshire schools to provide support.
And at the same time it will be supporting the Department of Health roll-out of in-school testing if necessary.
Jonathan Price, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for Education (and SEND), said: “School staff have been working very hard this year to deliver good education for our children in extraordinary circumstances and they deserve every credit.
“Following the recent Government announcements we are working closely with schools to help them where we can as they meet the latest challenges.
“We know schools are putting their arrangements in place and that they will be updating parents in the usual ways as soon as possible.”
Next week, all primary schools in Staffordshire will be opening as usual barring exceptional circumstances, while secondary schools are closed to everyone apart from the children of key workers and those considered vulnerable. Year 11 and 13 pupils will be taught online.
Home to School transport will be running as usual for those entitled to it.
From Monday, 11th January, Year 11 and 13 pupils will physically attend school and college, while Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 will be taught online.
From Monday, 18th January, all secondary and college pupils are expected to return to the classroom.
