Stoke City take all 3 points against Rooney’s Derby

Stoke (0) 1 Derby 0 20/3/21 3pm

Stoke’s perseverance paid off to take all 3 points from struggling Rooney’s Derby. Jacob Brown took 73 minutes of stick before finding enough space to head the only goal. Here’s how the game unfolded in real time:

Derby have no wins in 6, Stoke have only one. It doesn’t bode well. 4 youngsters on the bench, no Fletcher (concussed from the Cardiff game, as were all of us after watching it for 90 minutes!).
10.35 Powell clattered despite trying to jump out of a challenge. He’s just an unlucky guy…with a target on his back!
15.30 Joe Allen snuffs out Derby attack, then breaks with aplomb! Impressive for Joe…
23.08 Brown takes the ball well and even shoots from an angle, but it’s easy for Dutch keeper Kelle Roos. Thompson’s corner is weak. Rory Delap will be having kittens over Thompson’s set-piece deliveries.
42.45 Great passing and tackling by Stoke only results in Derby breaking and Richards shooting wide from distance. Stoke may have 69% possession but counts for nothing.
HT 0-9 (sorry, typo). 0-0.
48.58 Joe Allen tries an acrobatic scissor shot which even Crouchy would have struggled with. Nice try. Even for Joe.
52.15 Powell surrounded by defenders still gets a shot in. But the supplier Brown kind of expected something more clinical.
59.05 Despite Norrington-Davies being on the ball with a Derby player on his back, the ref gives the kick to Derby!
69.00 Stoke coaches huddle to discuss Derby’s triple substitution. Nothing comes of that!
73.30 1-0 !!! Powell floats a cross deep from the right, and Brown heads home! O’Neill was about to substitute some strikers, probably Brown too! Subs are told to sit back down. (Clarke & Vokes)
78.48 Brown almost makes it 2 as a free kick is headed down by Batth, but the angle is too tight, and it goes into the side netting. Vokes comes on for Allen! Suspect Brown or Powell will drop back to midfield.
81.10 Flattened Powell replaced by Clarke.
87.30 Clarke is clattered, and Cresswell is yellowed. Derby getting pushy.
89.30 Brown replaced by Tymon, but the picky ref makes Jacob go off on the far side and walk all around the pitch! Takes him all of 2 minutes.
