Stoke-on-Trent Man Jailed for 10 years for Sexual Offences

A 37-year-old-man from Abbey Hulton, Stoke-on-Trent, has been jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of rape, assault by penetration and theft.

Ryan Cartner, of Castle Grove, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on October 29.

He pleaded not guilty to all three offences at an earlier hearing. The offences occurred at the victim’s property in Newcastle-under-Lyme in January 2019.

Cartner was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. The 37-year-old was also given a restraining order for life.

DC Sarah Clancy at Staffordshire Police, said: “This was undoubtedly a traumatic ordeal for the woman concerned and I cannot praise her enough for the courage and bravery she has shown in coming forward and reporting what happened to her.

“I hope this conviction reassures our local community that sexual offences are taken seriously and that officers will work tirelessly to seek justice.”
