A community weapons sweep took place in parks with officers from Stoke North neighbourhood policing team working closely with the City Council.
A drone was used to assist and direct in the search of parks in Tunstall, Burslem, Cobridge, and Central Forest Park on July 7, helping officers to tackle shrubbery, rooftops, and other difficult to reach areas.
Chief Inspector Simon Brownsword, area commander of Stoke North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I want to reassure people that this was a routine check and not a specific response to any information or intelligence we received. I’m pleased to say only one possible weapon was identified.
“It’s important to note that although incidents of violent crime are uncommon, searching for weapons reduces opportunities for offending and we want those tempted to think they can carry weapons to get the message that it’s unacceptable and we will put them before the courts.
“Sometimes weapons are hidden or disposed of, so coordinating searches and working in partnership with the City Council is an effective, highly visible way of seizing and confiscating them
