The Potteries Centre Unveiles New 20 Foot Reindeer to Launch Festive Season

To celebrate the launch of the festive season, Stoke on Trent’s Potteries Centre has unveiled a new dazzlingly bright reindeer visitor to The Hive.

Standing tall at over six metres high, Glitzen is set to wow shoppers with over 3,000 LED lights which can be seen for miles.

Kicking off what will be the shopping centre’s biggest and brightest Christmas yet, Glitzen will be on hand throughout the festive period to add a little magic to visitors’ days, with shoppers invited to strike their best Glitzen pose and share their picture using the hashtag #DoTheGlitzen; the best pictures will be shown in the shopping centre throughout the festive season.

To celebrate Glitzen’s arrival, the centre hosted a star-studded VIP party with a selection of lucky Stokies given the chance to be the first to welcome the larger-than-life new addition to the centre. With mulled wine, minced pies and bags of festive cheer, the evening marked an exciting start to the festive calendar.

During the evening, this year’s Signal 1 Little Hero, Georgy Capener was on hand to officially unveil the new festive visitor. The evening also featured a special performance by St Margaret’s CE Junior School pupils who were the winners of The Potteries Centre’s school Christmas choir competition. Their winning song, created in Glitzen’s honour, was a creative take on traditional song, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, but reimagined in Glitzen’s honour.

Further festivities during the glittering evening included a special appearance by The Snow Queen and Snow Wolf.

Over the coming weeks the centre also has a range of upcoming activities set to take place in the run up to Christmas. These include the return of the interactive Toy Testing Lab, where children and their families will get the chance to give Santa’s elves a hand in testing the season’s latest toys and games ready for the nation’s stockings. The season will also see the arrival of brand-new decorations on the mall, as well as some special festive selfie opportunities.

Commenting on this season’s upcoming events and the arrival of Glitzen, Amy Whittaker, General Manager of The Potteries Centre, said:

“It goes without saying that Christmas 2020 wasn’t the merriest for many. That’s why this year we wanted to treat Stokies to our biggest and brightest Christmas yet, with a little help from our festive showstopper, Glitzen.

“We’ve gone all out with brand new decorations across the centre for the first time in five years and we’ve got lots of exciting treats for visitors to look forward to over the coming weeks. From festive choirs and the interactive toy lab to retailer styling demos, delicious Christmas menus at our restaurants and Christmas selfie opportunities – there’s certainly something for everyone.

“It was also great to be able to welcome a selection of special guests who helped us kick off the season in style during a fantastic evening filled with festive cheer. It’s certainly shaping up to be a brilliant Christmas this year and we can’t wait to celebrate the season with shoppers new and old.”
