Walker Joins Valiants As First Summer Signing

Port Vale have agreed the pre-contract signing of Brad Walker after the defensive midfielder was released by Shrewsbury Town’s manager Steve Cotterill on the 12th May. The 26 year old defensive midfielder will complete his move at the end of the Month when his current deal ends and will join the Valiants on an initial two year deal.

Walker started the 2020/21 season brightly for the Shrews starting fourteen of the first fifteen games of the season before an ankle injury forced the versatile midfielder onto the sidelines for three months before forcing his way back into the Shrewsbury squad for the final eight games of the season.

Speaking to the press today, Manager Darrell Clarke said:

“We are delighted to confirm an agreement with Brad Walker, who really sets the tone in terms of our first midfield addition. He has bought into the vision presented by myself and David Flitcroft and has shown a real hunger to help Port Vale develop on the field.

“He is of a good age and is coming in as a defensive ball playing central midfielder and we are looking forward to welcoming Brad and seeing what he can produce in a Port Vale shirt.”

Despite being only 26, Walker brings with him a wealth of experience have played previously at Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Crewe and Hartlepool, playing 38 games at League One level and scoring the goal of the season at Shrewsbury last term.
