On my show today, I interviewed Chairman of The Beatrice Charity, Derek Hilyer
Of all the information I could have received from him, I found out that at the age of 71, he’d recently gotten his first tattoo! I was so pleased to hear this news, especially when he told me with such a big smile on his face.
There’s still a huge stigma about tattoos in the world, even after them being popular for such a long time. I have 7 tattoos in total, so far, and I’ll never forget the following story… I used to work in a bar, and a customer overheard me talking to someone about my first tattoo. When I next went to serve the gentleman, he mentioned my tattoo, and told me that I had (in his words), “ruined my figure”. I was shocked to say the least, that somebody could be so rude! At the same time, I totally understand that some people just don’t like them.
But – the point of my blog today isn’t to have a rant about tattoos; it is just to say that, even though it’s something we’ve known for however long, no matter how old you are, you are never too old to do anything! I turn twenty this year and still watch cartoons most days, some people say it’s childish, but like I’ve re-learnt today – you’re never too old.
