A sensational performance from Abbey Hulton United saw them progress to the 4th round of the Isuzu FA Vase for the first time in their history as they saw off Droitwich Spa 4-2.
It was a tense first half at the Drayton Beaumont stadium with both sides trading early chances. The best one saw the visitors hit the crossbar of Danny Roberts’ goal.
However, it was the Abbey, who broke the deadlock just before the halftime break. Former Leek Town man Matt Bell smashed an unstoppable volley into the goal from around 25 yards out.
After the interval, Droitwich turned it around thanks to goals from Charlie Tilley and James Lemon.
Despite being behind, the hosts did not let their performance drop and within a minute of Lemon’s goal, they were level as Danny Cocks whipped a cross in and found Aiden Blaise who headed home.
With the game heading towards a penalty shootout, Abbey scored two late goals, the first was through Cocks from the penalty spot after a Droitwich player handled Bell’s free kick.
The 4th and final goal came in the final minute when Kieran Brown found the net.
Abbey Hulton United will host Heanor Town on the 11th January in the 4th round.
