Congleton return to winning ways with victory over Avro

Congleton Town returned to winning way as they defeated Avro 2-1 thanks to goals from Kieran Knapper and Dan Needham.

The Bears were going into the game on the back of their most disappointing result in recent seasons as they lost 5-2 at Witton Albion at the weekend. However, this result was just what the Doctor ordered.

Against the run of play, the Bears took the lead on 15 minutes as Needham played in Knapper whose driving shot across the face of the goal was enough to beat the visiting keeper.

Avro pulled level with around eight minutes to go until the break when an unmarked Kyle Hawley tapped in at the back post after Oliver Putnam did well to get his cross in.

In the second half, Congleton went up a gear and after several good chances to score, they finally got a 2nd on 57 minutes when Starman Knapper got a cross in for Needham to turn home at the back post.

It should have been more comfortable for the Bears in the last 10 minutes as they couldn’t retain possession against an Avro side who threw everything forward but, stood firm to see out the victory.

After the match, Moorlands Radio spoke to assistant manager Anthony Griffith to get his reaction to the game.
