Staffordshire Police are advising drivers to take extra care on the roads as weather warnings for snow and ice are set to remain in place over the weekend.
An amber cold health alert has been issued for Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, with temperatures set to fall to as low as -4.5C in the Moorlands.
The new road crime team (RCT) and wider force will be working proactively to help ensure that road users across the county stay safe.
Scott McGrath, who heads up the RCT, said: “To ensure you protect yourselves and other road users from the impact of icy roads, we suggest that you take a number of precautions.
“Clear your car of ice and snow, including the windscreen, rear window, wing mirrors and roof, before driving. Maintain extra distance from other vehicles and allow for extra braking time.
“Don’t start driving until the windscreen is fully defrosted and avoid driving altogether if weather conditions are extreme.”

Whole county – snow and ice valid from 6pm on Saturday (4th January) until noon on Sunday (5th January) (Medium Likelihood of Medium Impact)
North of county – snow only valid from 9pm on Saturday (4th January) until 11.59pm on Sunday (5th January) (High Likelihood of Medium Impact)
