Walkers across the region are preparing to put their best foot forward when the popular Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival returns next month.
The event, which takes place from Friday 24 April to Monday 4 May, features a choice of free or low-cost guided walks ranging from leisurely to strenuous.
Led by knowledge specialist walk leaders, there are walks catering for a variety of interests so look out for walks that showcase stunning scenery and wildlife and routes that help bolster your knowledge of local history.
Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, said: “It’s the fifth year we’re hosting this festival in the Moorlands and I can’t think of a better place to get outside and enjoy the open air, our stunning countryside and heritage, and a good walk.
“We all know being more active and spending time outdoors boosts our mood and is good for our physical health and mental wellbeing – and with walks to suit all ages and abilities there really is something for everyone to take part in.
“And, at the end of the walks, the Moorlands offers a fantastic variety of hospitality and accommodation options, and plenty of independent shops, award-winning markets, and many other cultural and visitor attractions so there’s every reason to come and join us this spring. We can promise a warm welcome whatever the weather!”
The Festival is fast becoming a much-anticipated feature on the Moorlands events calendar. Last year’s festival attracted over 1,500 participants and featured over 80 walks and events. Almost 40 organisations were involved and the festival website had an impressive 51,263 visitors.
With weeks still to go before the start of the festival, there are already around 70 walks and events listed for this year. Check the website regularly to book the ones you’re interested in and see what’s been added.
Moorlands businesses are also embracing the opportunities the Festival brings by displaying this year’s logo and helping to spread the word as well as, in some cases, offering discounts such as 10% off food.
Councillor Swindlehurst added: “Our tourism team is doing a great job of supporting businesses across the district who want to get involved. Do contact the team to discuss how your business could benefit!”
