A Ton-Up for Covid Vaccination in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent

If you’re over 50, you’re in an at-risk group or are a carer there’s a vaccine with your name on it this weekend if you’ve not yet received any protection against COVID-19.

The call comes as the West Midlands becomes the first region in the UK to deliver over five million virus-defeating vaccinations – 4.75 million first doses and just under 300,000 second doses.

Today also marks the 100th day since vaccinations started in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

“We’ve come a long way in a short period of time, but we want to keep the momentum going,” said Dr Paddy Hannigan, Clinical Lead for the vaccination programme in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

“Vaccines are known to provide a very high protection from COVID and are safe. But we know there are still some people who are eligible and still not vaccinated.

“This may because they don’t realise they are in an eligible group or because they are waiting to be contacted and invited to book – it doesn’t matter. If you are over 50, clinically vulnerable because of a health condition, you are a health or care worker or have caring responsibilities there is a vaccination with your name on it.”

Booking a vaccination is free, quick and simple. You don’t need to contact your GP and there are normally a range of vaccination appointments time available for your convenience.”

Dr Hannigan added: “What we’ve achieved in the first 100 days is a huge credit to our vaccination centre staff and army of volunteers. But it is also a credit to every single person who has come forward to receive their vaccination.”

You can book your vaccination online or if that’s not possible call 119.
