Add getting vaccinated to your New Year’s resolutions

Make getting vaccinated a New Year’s resolution is the advice for people in Staffordshire as the beginning of 2022 sees Covid-19 case rates at an all-time high.

The rapid spread of the Omicron variant has highlighted the importance of people being vaccinated and getting boosted as soon as they are eligible to give themselves the best protection possible against becoming seriously ill from the virus.

Anybody aged over 12 years old is eligible for a Covid vaccine, and people aged 18 and over can get a booster vaccine if three months has passed since their second dose.

Vaccine appointments can be booked at a number of local sites on the NHS portal and people can attend local walk-in centres across the county without needing to book an appointment.

Dr Richard Harling, Director for Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council, said: “New Year is typically a time for making health based resolutions, and I’d say few are more important and easier to keep than getting vaccinated to protect yourself and your loved ones against Covid-19.

“The festive period is a busy time and this may have caused some people to delay getting their vaccine, but it really is so important that people don’t risk becoming seriously ill in the New Year.

“More people than ever before can now get their Covid-19 vaccine or booster, and research has shown that the booster dose of the vaccine offers good protection against the new Omicron variant, which is currently spreading rapidly and seeing case rates rise higher than ever before.

“If you are still in need of your vaccine or booster, please do not delay getting yourself protected any longer.”

Following recommendations from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), the NHS will begin rolling out booster vaccines to eligible healthy 16 and 17 year olds during January with more detail to be announced in due course.

Vaccine appointments can be booked viawww.nhs.uk/coronavirusvaccine and local walk-in clinic information can be found atwww.twbstaffsandstoke.org.uk/coronavirus.
