Cheadle Councillor Raising Money for 10 Defibrillators [Listen]

A Cheadle Town Councillor is attempting to raise enough funding for 10 defibrillators to be sited across the town.

Her idea stems back to March 2020 and following the series of lockdowns she is hoping to step up efforts as restrictions ease.

Councillor Elizabeth Whitehouse teamed up with Stone based charity AED Donate to launch the campaign following the loss of Cheadle’s community response vehicle.

She is urging businesses and town residents to donate to the worthy cause.

Following research Cllr Whitehouse and AED Donate want a total of 26 defibrillators spaced around 200 metres apart. Each will cost around £2000 and includes pads, batteries, and a cabinet holder.

Businesses who sponsor a defibrillator would get a plaque with their name on above where the apparatus situated, stating that it had donated money towards its installation.

Currently there are just 4 defibrillators located across Cheadle and whilst 26 seems a huge target Cllr Whitehouse has set a realistic target of 10 in the initial phase of the campaign.

She is also heavily involved in campaigning on mental health issues and she shared her thoughts on that too.

Moorlands Radio’s News & Sports Editor Tony Walley spoke with Cllr Whitehouse and started by asking her what prompted the campaign – listen here:
