Convolan Joins Valiants Ahead of Pre-Season Training

With pre-season due to kick off in just over a week, Port Vale have today confirmed the signing of Brazilian Goalkeeper Lucas Covolan on an initial two year contract. Covolan is Thirty and joins the Valiants from Torquay United where he made fifty-three appearances over the last two seasons.

The highlight of his career to date was his man of the match performance during the recent National League Play-Off Final scoring a dramatic injury time equaliser to take the game into extra time, but despite saving two penalties during the resulting penalty shoot out, the Gulls missed out to Hartlepool who will join Vale in League Two this season.

Covolan started his career with Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama Under 20’s before progressing through the Brazilian League with Club Athletico Paranaense B, Clube Esportivo de Bento Gonçalves, Toledo Esporte Clube & Rio Branco Football Club.

Covolan moved to the UK in the Summer of 2016 where he joined Whitehawk FC, located in Brighton, of the Isthmian League South East Division. He then went out on loan to Lewes before making the switch to Worthing and finally moving to Torquay where he spent the previous two seasons.

Manager Darrell Clarke is delighted with his latest signing;

“Lucas had a very good season with Torquay and has earned his right to move up the ladder. He is hungry to prove he’s a league-level player and we feel he has all the attributes to succeed at this level.”
