Endon Space Activity Hits the Mark

A canoeing session in Endon was the latest in a packed programme of fun summer activities taking place as part of Space 2021.

Deputy Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Helen Fisher dropped into the watersports session organised by the Stoke-on-Trent Youth Offending Team and held at Stanley Head Outdoor Education Centre.

During the session she saw a group of young people take part in different challenges out on the water as part of the five weeks of Space 2021.

The summer programme, which runs from 26 July to 27 August, brings together public, voluntary and private sector organisations to provide support for potentially vulnerable young people to help increase skills, improve health and wellbeing and create opportunities with an additional aim of reducing levels of anti-social behaviour.

Deputy Commissioner, Helen Fisher said: ‘The excitement and joy of the young people at today’s activity in Endon was fantastic to see. After an extremely difficult 18 months it was wonderful that the young people were outside getting active and enjoying themselves in such a healthy, positive way.

‘These activities are all about providing an opportunity for Staffordshire Police and partners to engage with young people who may be going through a difficult time to help nurture, support and develop them.’

Innovation and Policy Coordinator, Lindsey Leach said: ‘Getting young people to attend sessions like this is great as it helps to improve their confidence and self-esteem. When they are with us they are focussed, working on their personal boundaries and developing trust. We have Police Officers attending to support the young people and help to break down those barriers.

Details of activities including how to book and guidance around Covid-19 are available on the Space website, www.staffordshirespace.uk.

  • All activities must be pre-booked through the information provided on the Space website.
  • Once a booking is confirmed, all children and young people must apply for a Space 2021 Registration Card, which must be produced at every Space activity attended.
  • Children and Young People are only able to attend activities that take place within the local authority area in which they live.
