Leek Town Crier Bill Lomas on His Important Role [Listen]

Bill Lomas is the Leek Town Crier and he really enjoys getting out in the town chatting to people as they go about their everyday lives.

The Coronavirus pandemic has seriously impacted on not just everyday lives but the events, shows, festivals and ceremonies we all took for granted before it came along.

Like so many people 75 year old Bill has kept himself as busy and occupied as he could do but he has missed his duties and can’t wait to get back out there, doing what he does best.

Although civic and non-civic events were massively curtailed in the last year one event did go ahead and Bill played an active role.  On Friday May 8th 2020 he joined his fellow Town Criers across the country to mark the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War to give a ‘Cry for Peace’.

Moorlands Radio’s News & Sports Editor Tony Walley managed to catch up with Bill recently and he started by asking the popular Town Crier how the lockdown has effected him. Listen to his brilliant cry for people to go out and get the Coronavirus Vaccine as soon as the can:
