Leek Town’s Rob Stevenson is a finalist for the prestigious Northern Premier League Supporters award

Leek Town forward Rob Stevenson has capped a fantastic season by being named as a finalist in the prestigious Northern Premier League Supporters’ Player of the Year award.

It is an award that has previously been won by the likes of Chey Dunkley (Hednesford Town then Oxford United, Wigan Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and Shrewsbury Town), Robbie Dale (Blyth Spartans), Diego De Girolamo (Buxton) and Julio Arca (South Shields).

Stevenson has had the season of his life for Leek Town as they sealed the 2023/24 Pitching In Northern Premier League West title back on the 1st April with a 2-1 win at Newcastle Town. The Blues also had a fantastic run in the Emirates FA Cup reaching the 4th qualifying round where they lost narrowly to National League side AFC Fylde.

From Stevenson’s perspective, he scored 21 goals in 38 league games meaning he claimed the division’s golden boot ahead of Clitheroe’s Sefton Gonzales (20 goals), Bootle’s Ben Hodkinson and Byron Harrison of Nantwich Town (both got 18 goals each). He also bagged three hat-tricks during the season, all on the road, as he got them at Stalybridge Celtic, Kidsgrove Athletic and Hanley Town.

If you also tally up the goals he scored in cup competitions then, Stevenson scored 26 goals including a memorable strike against South Shields in the FA Cup, a game that was shown on the BBC iPlayer/Red Button.

The other players, Stevenson is up against for the award are as follows:
David Symington- Workington
Amar Purewal- Hebburn Town
Ben Hodkinson- Bootle
Finlay Sinclair-Smith- Marine
Jordan Hulme- Radcliffe
Freddie Robinson- Anstey Nomads
Paddy Webb- Quorn
Kevin Bastos- Belper Town
Tendai Daire- Harborough Town/Hinckley LR FC

While they didn’t make the final 10- Leek Town defender Liam Buckley and Nantwich Town forward Kai Evans were both highly commended by the committee made up of fans of the 81 Northern Premier League clubs as well as club’s media officers, Radio teams and members of the league podcast.
