Malbon scores a hat-trick as the Grove win 5-0 at home to Wisbech Town

Anthony Malbon scored his first hat-trick of the season as Kidsgrove Athletic put Wisbech Town to the sword with a 5-0 victory.

The captain took his tally to six goals in the league and nine in all competitions. While Kyle Blake got his third in as many games and Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi took his tally to five for the season.

Ryan Austin had moved in the week to sign Josh Lundstram from Crewe Alexandra on a month loan. It was the Crewe youngster who had the first chance of the game when he forced a fine save out of Sam Wilson from a free-kick.

At the other end, Kieran Harrison had to make a fine save to turn a Charley Sanders shot around the post.

In recent weeks Kidsgrove have fallen behind early on in matches. However, it was the Grove’s turn to strike early when an Alex Morris cross found Malbon who guided the ball home with his head for 1-0 after just 10 minutes of play.

It was 2-0 on 22 minutes when Ruben Wiggins-Thomas found Blake, who cut in before shooting home with aid of a deflection off Jay Whyatt.

The Grove could have been further ahead at the interval with Wiggins-Thomas and Sam Hall both having good chances to increase the lead. However, their efforts were off target.

Malbon got his second of the afternoon when he stabbed the ball home inside the six-yard box after Wilson failed to collect a corner. The goal killed the game off as a contest as no one could see the Fenmen coming back from 3-0 down to take anything from the game.

Kidsgrove had to wait until the 76th minute for Malbon to complete his hat-trick. The ball struck Conor Green’s hand, meaning the referee had to point to the spot. Malbon stepped up to smash the ball home for his first hat-trick of the season.

Adu-Gymafi came on for Malbon, with 10 minutes to go and, he completed the scoring on 88 minutes when Ben Hart was able to hit a low cross into the area, James Jennings flicked the ball on to Gyamfi who made no mistake to put the ball past Wilson.

It was a superb all-round performance as Kidsgrove moved up one place to 15th in the league table. They will be hoping to take the confidence to 2nd place Cleethorpes Town next Saturday.
