Man Jailed Following Hanley Arson

A man has been jailed after pleading guilty to arson following a fire in Hanley.

Richard Carr, 44, of Powell Street, Cobridge, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 28 June.

Police were called by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at 10.05am on 9 December 2020 reporting they were on their way to a fire where people were trapped.

Officers attended and found Carr sat outside refusing to allow firefighters into the property. The fire had been started in Carr’s room. All occupants were evacuated.

DC Mick Smith, of CID North, said: “Thankfully no-one was injured as a consequence of Carr’s actions. I hope this conviction serves to reassure the community that we are actively tackling arson offences.”
