New Vic presents programme of free online theatre skills masterclasses in lockdown

The New Vic is inviting people to learn a range of creative skills from the comfort of their homes by joining in with free, interactive virtual workshops.

New Vic staff will share their unique professional expertise in a series of practical online masterclasses, from Tuesday 26 January to Thursday 11 February.

Hosted by the New Vic Education team, the sessions will be suitable for a wide variety of ages and skill levels, and cover a range of fascinating and fun disciplines. The masterclasses will include sessions on practical sound design, designing for Zoom, 3D printing, 3D modelling and animating, the role of a Deputy Stage Manager, puppet making, designing for theatre, lighting, and creating special effects with make-up. And younger learners can join in the fun too. For children aged four to seven and their families there is a ‘Boogie Beats’ music and movement session on Wednesday 27 January and a ‘Teddy Tales’ storytelling get-together on Thursday 4 February.

With practical demonstrations and activities throughout the sessions, participants can join in using simple software and items which can be easily found around the house and each session is designed to give participants a fun insight into the world of theatre-making.

More information on the masterclasses can be found at newvictheatre.org.uk. To book, email education@newvictheatre.org.uk.
