Port Vale announce former AFC Wimbledon man Ronan Curtis as their first summer signing

Port Vale have announced that former AFC Wimbledon winger Ronan Curtis has agreed to a three year deal with the Valiants which will start on the 1st July.

Curtis is a product of the Derry City Academy where he would make his professional debut in 2015 and would go on to make 91 appearances for the Candystripes in all competitions. He would also find the back of the net on 18 occasions including a goal in the UEFA Europa League against FC Midtjylland.

The Republic of Ireland international would sign for League One side Portsmouth in 2018 where he became a fan favourite at Fratton Park playing 226 times for Pompey scoring 57 goals and creating 42 assists in five seasons at the club, which made his Portsmouth’s leading goal scorer in the 21st century and their third highest goals corer in their entire history.

He departed the South Coast club in January when he signed for League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a short term deal until the end of the season. He scored five times during his short spell at New Plough Lane including a memorable winner against bitter rivals MK Dons which earned him the club’s goal of the season award and, secured his status as a cult hero with the Dons faithful.

Port Vale manager Darren Moore is pleased to have won the race to get Curtis’ signature.

He said: “I am delighted to welcome Ronan to the Vale.

“He’s a player with a proven calibre above League Two level and we are really pleased that he has chosen to commit to the club long-term amidst strong interest in both League One and League Two.

“He is a player with wonderful technical ability and experience. His versatility adds an exciting dynamic to the squad, which I’m sure will be appreciated by our supporters, and I am really looking forward to welcoming Ronan to the club.”
