Schools Close as Snow Sweeps Across Staffordshire

Schools across the county currently open to vulnerable children and the children of keyworkers have had to close their on-site provision due to bad weather conditions.

So far, nearly 100 schools in Staffordshire have notified the county council of their decision to close their buildings, after heavy snow fell across all parts of the county on Sunday.

Online learning will continue, with school staff working hard to clear sites in time for tomorrow.

County Councillor Jonathan Price, Cabinet Member for Education (including SEND) said: “Schools have to protect the health and safety of their staff and pupils while on site, and with the treacherous conditions we have seen over the weekend and today, many schools have decided to close.

“Throughout the pandemic, online learning has been in place, and this will continue for the children of key workers who have to stay home today. Our schools are doing a fantastic job to ensure children do not miss out on their education, and I know many of them are working hard to clear their sites so these children can return to school tomorrow.

“This is just another example of how our schools are pulling out all the stops to keep children safe, and ensure their learning can continue.”

Schools will have notified parents of their individual arrangements. For information on current school closures in Staffordshire, please visit www.staffordshire.gov.uk/schoolclosures. This list will only cover schools that have chosen to notify the county council of their closure.
