Moorlands hotel announces ‘We Love The Moorlands’ as their 2023 charity of choice

Staffordshire Moorlands hotel, The Tawny, included in The Sunday Times ‘Best 100 Places To Stay In Britain’ has announced that it is raising money for a new local community fund; We Love The Moorlands throughout 2023. As their 2023 ‘charity of choice’, the hotel is planning a series of activities to raise much needed cash for the local community by organising fundraising dinners plus the staff are participating in a ‘tough mudder’ challenge.

Located in Consall near Wetley Rocks and Cheddleton, The Tawny is a ‘deconstructed’ hotel and resort. Rather than having a central hotel site, guests have all facilities and experiences in their very own private space across the estate. Opened in July 2021 it is already attracting guests from across the UK, especially London, who would normally visit the Cotswolds, Wales, or The Lakes. Closer to home, local and regional day visitors are most welcome for either lunch, special events or dinner.

We Love The Moorlands is a community fund providing small grants of up to £1000 to a range of projects only in the Moorlands area. Only started in 2021, it raises money by company and individual donations and fund-raising activities and then awards grants twice a year.

All money is invested through a permanent endowment in line with charity commission guidelines. The interest and dividends earned on the money are then distributed by the Fund as small grants across the district. The beauty of this model is that it will provide a source of sustainable, permanent, and on-going funding that can be used for small grants, and larger grants as the fund grows, for many years to come.

Local businesses such as Ornua and Hewitt & Carr Architects are supporters and so far, the fund has given away £27,000 to local voluntary community groups across the Staffordshire Moorlands area.

Patron of We Love The Moorlands is Judy Scott-Moncrieff, of Leek.  She said, “We Love The Moorlands is ‘for the Moorlands, by the Moorlands and I am over the moon that such a prestigious venue, that is putting our area on the map nationally, is supporting us.

“With The Tawny joining Ornua and Hewitt & Carr we are starting to gain some real momentum with the business community that will only help reach more local voluntary groups and support more of our local community.’

“A huge thank you to The Tawny, which is new and fledgling like us, for supporting during what I know will be a very fulfilling journey that will have a lasting impact on our area.”

Josh Chadwick, General Manager of The Tawny said, “We want to make a difference to the community where we work and where we live.

“It’s really important to me and my team to see the benefits of the fund raising we do. In many cases we may know the beneficiary of the funding, or a person in it.

“That local connection and seeing how our work will help, will give us a real focus when we fundraise. And by supporting a We Love The Moorlands our guests and suppliers will also see the benefits to the local society.”

Judy continued, “Someone once told me, ‘Helping someone doesn’t change the World, but it can make a world of difference’. This is my rallying call to people and businesses across the district to raise money for their local voluntary groups, to help those on our doorstep. “
