Stats back Adam Davies for Stoke City keeper spot

Stoke manager Michael O’Neill was asked by Moorlands Radio’s Dave Lee about Adam Davies’ return to first team duties between the sticks for the midweek Cardiff 0-0 draw.

Davies replaced Angus Gunn (on loan from Southampton) who’d taken over the green jersey (actually it’s yellow or orange!) for a run of 10 games.

Before Angus, youngster Joe Bursik had an extended run of 15 games.

But who’s the best Stoke goalkeeper statistically this season?

Well, Adam Davies is the best when it comes to goal concession. In the League, he concedes on average 0.94 goals a game. Bursik is a little higher with 1.07. But Angus concedes 1.33 goals per game.

For points gained (per game), then Davies leads with 1.53 points won per game (Bursik 1.27, Gunn 1.26).

When it comes to win-rates, Gunn just pips Davies with Stoke winning 37% of games that Angus plays in. Davies is 35%, but Bursik is only 27%.

And as for clean sheets, it’s very close, with Davies & Bursik keeping a cleansheet for 47% of games, with Angus close behind on 44%.

It’s the one position that O’Neill is spoilt for choice, and not troubled by injuries. But when it comes down to low goal-concessions and cleansheets, it’s understandable that the Stoke manager has called on his first choice at the start of the season, which was Adam Davies.

Although there’s not much between all three keepers, Davies just leads statistically.
