Stoke 0 Rotherham 1 – 18/10/22 8pm
Stoke lost to a United early goal, struggling to get back into a game they should have won. United wasted hours of time, and that made City’s task harder. Alex Neil threw on an exciting bunch of subs, including a useful Nick Powell, but it was never going to be enough. Here’s how the game unfolded in real time:
–
Can Stoke make it 3 wins in a row?? Delap in for injured Smallbone, so we will see…
–
2.45 And already Jagielka is down after colliding heads at a corner with Hakeem Odoffin. It’s going to be a huge bandage round his head (instead of being replaced by hapless Aden Flint, presently warming up on his lonesome.)
–
5.45 0-1 !! Whilst Jagielka is waiting to come back on, United take a corner, and Oliver Rathbone fires through a crowd of players to score. No one can believe it!
–
24.30 Rotherham already time-wasting, with keeper Viktor Johansson particularly culpable!
–
33.01 Delap has a clear header, but it’s weak and straight at the keeper Viktor. He’s probably best as an impact sub…?
–
39.55 A bad tackle by Capt Ben Miles on Gayle gets a yellow, but the replay makes it look like a red!!
–
44.25 Delap brought down by Humphreys on the edge of the area, a yellow card & so nearly a penalty. Cameron is sooooo angry to be penalised, but then Baker’s free kick is straight at the wall.
–
45+3 Delap is thrown around in the area & his shirt tugged, but gets nothing. United players reckon he should be booked for diving!!
–
HT City 0 United 1 – a lot of complaints to the ref! He deserves it!
–
Attendance 18,036
–
67.02 Harry Clarke on for Morgan Fox. Clarke is almost a winger. Meanwhile Powell & Brown come on for Gayle & Delap. Keeper Viktor was mortally wounded but is now perfectly OK after failing to get Gayle punished.
–
73.07 Fosu sets up Brown to slip to Tyrese who fires just over. Small improvements.
–
78.25 Wright-Phillips and Jordan Thompson (in a mask) on for Fosu and Sterling. Here’s to 10 minutes of bedlam. Brown immediately collides with the keeper Viktor.
–
84.01 Tyrese’s diving header off Thompson’s cross from the left goes wide of the near post. Seemed easier to score.
–
90.00 Astonishingly there is only 5 minutes added, despite a long injury to Odoffin and a ton of time-wasting.
–
90+2 Keeper Viktor has collapsed after falling on Jacob Brown, and trying to make it look more sinister than it was. Corner almost gives Stoke a most audacious goal, as Baker’s corner is back headed by Powell, but tipped away by Viktor. He seems to have recovered well.
–
90+5 and the last chance falls for Brown who blasts over. Not Stoke’s night.
