Stoke City hold Cardiff in dull draw

Cardiff 0 Stoke 0 – 16/3/21 7pm

Another draw, but Stoke’s Joe Allen hit the bar in the last minute and City should have stolen this dull game. Baby Christian Norton came on late for a debut, and looked head & shoulders better than the rest. Here’s how the game unfolded in real time:

At last O’Neill sees the light & fires Gunn and reloads with Adam Davies. Two ex-Ireland managers face each other: Mick McCarthy (Republic) vs Michael O’Neill (Northern). They’ll probably cancel each other out.
7.50 Norrington surprises everyone by dribbling into the area and shooting!
11.15 Returning Thompson starts as he means to go on with a scary corner. Everyone has a swipe on Cardiff’s goal, but true to form the ball won’t go in. Fletcher brings out a save from Dillon Phillips.
19.15 Fletcher breaks, sets up Powell to miss by a mile. Wouldn’t mind but he was actually placing the ball not blasting it.
27.07 Fletcher injures himself heading straight at the keeper & is down for 4 minutes. Sam Vokes replaces him. Well, he is Welsh (like Joe, Norrington, Rabbi & Davies), more than Cardiff’s side.
33.01 Ref annoyed with Powell who thwarting his drop-ball.
38.40 Bog-standard header straight at keeper by…Sam Vokes of course!

73.38 Jonny Williams with a disastrous beard comes on for Cardiff.
75.15 Mikel gets a shot on target!
79.33 Decent save by Davies at the feet of Moore who makes a meal of it with a poor first touch.
81.50 Moore breaks & misses. Not his day, surely.
84.20 Under-23 hero Christian Norton on for Powell!!! Blimey! Talk about young blood.
88.40 Davies drops ball after long throw, although replay shows he was pushed.
90+1 Norton charges through, slips it to Cracker who crosses & Allen’s header hits the bar!!! Best chance…gone…
