Stoke City manage 0-0 draw with Tony Pulis’ Wednesday

Sheff Wed 0 Stoke 0 28/11/20 3pm

Goalless. Two well-organised defences cancel each other out. Why did anyone expect anything different? The most exciting thing to happen in this game was…er…well, here’s what Michael O’Neill had to say after the game:
…and here’s how the game unfolded in real time:
Tony Pulis’ first home game in charge of Wednesday…and OF COURSE it’s against Stoke. Who else?! (Haven’t we been here before?!) But then it’s Stoke’s best chance to beat him before he gets his feet under the table. Stoke have 4 ex-Pulis players in their side – returning Chester & McClean plus Batth and Mikel.
2.30 Stoke with 90% possession already…but nowhere near the goal. No real surprise there.
5.30 Chester on the wrong end of the rough stuff. he shouldn’t look so surprised either.
14.30 Stoke try a training ground free kick, and fluff it. Both managers look on in disbelief.
15.30 Wednesday talisman Harris shoots just wide, grazing the post. He was surprised to even get the ball.
21.30 As Gregory lies injured, the players get a drink, and surely that was Pulis bawling out “RORY!!”
25.30 Vokes on for Gregory. Hm. Stoke missing Fletch.
35.30 Shot by Borner is so wide that ref deemed it to have taken a deflection. Harris’ thunderbolt shot from the corner is blocked on line by Mikel.
42.30 One of the worst free kicks by Stoke’s James McClean at the other end. Embarrassing themselves in front of Pulis.
45+2 HT Wednesday 0 City 0 – did we expect otherwise?
52.30 Stoke almost score from a set-piece! But the in-swinging corner is beaten away. Stoke quelled well so far by the Owls.
55.30 Yes, Pulis has found himself a long-throw expert! Fails to impress Stoke’s defence though.
57.30 Nathan Collins actually breaking down the right, but Vokes has the weakest of headers…Defenders almost mocking at the ease that they clear the ball.
61.30 Chester almost made to pay for not dealing with an up-and-over.
79.30 Cousins on for Mikel. Toughening things up? Wednesday immediately flash the ball across the Stoke goal mouth.
82.30 Brown on for McClean.
85.30 Luongo up-ends breaking Tyrese. Yellow card, but cynical enough to be red.
90+3 Stoke’s best chance, as a free-kick results in a Vokes shot saved by keeper Wildsmith’s legs.
FT clean sheets all round. 0-0. Should have expected that.
