Stoke City out-gunned by Coventry 2-3

Stoke (0) 2 Coventry (1) 3 – 21/4/21 7pm

Stoke drifted further down the league after being out-fought by struggling Coventry. Two great goals (by Brown & Clucas) didn’t make up for conceding so weakly at the other end. Here’s how the game unfolded in real time:

Four possibly unnecessary changes (including Gunn & Thompson for Davies & Mikel). Get this wrong against struggling Coventry & fans will not be forgiving.
12.50 Gunn floundering at the feet of a striker and was lucky not to give away a penalty. Weak.
16.20 Chester off injured… and on comes youngster Connor Taylor! Blimey, MON will be raiding the local kindergarten next!
25.30 Coventry captain Liam Kelly collapses just as Stoke look threatening. Blimey, he’s got to go off too.
32.00 Taylor gets a header in from a corner and it should be 1-0, but somehow keeper Benny Wilson keeps it out with an amazing save.
43.00 0-1 !! Coventry’s Tyler Walker walks the ball into the net. Chronic defending by Stoke.
HT 0-1. Stoke could end up in the bottom half tonight.
45.00 Norton & Thompson pushed off for Fletcher & Mikel. MON means business.
54.15 Powell gets his obligatory clattering. Fletcher then decides to try an overhead kick. Standard fodder.
57.27 1-1 !!! Jacob Brown thwacks a loose ball home like a rocket.
63.15 Great save by Gunn from point blank. Everyone very surprised.
67.27 1-2 !! Coventry’s Biamou bundles in from a long throw. Delap having a fit.
69.25 2-2 !!! Clucas volleys in from a cross from Cracker Smith. Wham! Pick that one out!
76.59 2-3 !! Gunn beaten by long range speculative shot.
80.37 Matondo & Vokes on for Clucas & Brown.
85.35 Somehow Fletcher’s header can’t beat keeper Benny. Fletch can’t believe it!
88.05 The ref won’t stop the game when Powell is down but as Stoke attack & about to cross, he stops the game!!!
90+1 Vokes gets his head in the ball. Can’t really call it a header on target, although I suppose it is.
FT Stoke 2 Coventry 3 – Stoke not the force they used to be. They fall into the bottom half of the league.
