Unlucky Newcastle Town fall to Ramsbottom 0-2

Newcastle 0 Ramsbottom (1) 2 – 19/11/22

Lowly Ramsbottom somehow won this game comfortably, despite Newcastle Town being the better side all over the pitch. But goals win games, & United defended stoically blocking all that Town threw at them second half. Here’s how the game unfolded in real time:
Newcastle Town need to get back in the saddle (ie win!) to stay in touch with the leaders. After only one win in five they start today in 9th position with 21 points, but (as I’m told by supporters!) only a point from a playoff place! (Macclesfield & Leek are running away with the league with 33 & 32 points.) Ramsbottom have sunk to 19th (of 20) ALSO with only one win in five. Four changes for Town, including the return of keeper Joe Slinn & the long-awaited return of nippy Connor Russo.
9.30 Great save by Joe Slinn from a one-on-one with little Croughan, who blunders in the subsequent corner, but blunders Slinn in the process. Disallowed.
23.30 As Nathan Morley is shoved off the pitch into the United dugout! (They don’t seem too bothered to see him!) United’s Oscar Radcliffe gets a booking.
25.30 Another great save by Town’s keeper Joe Slinn from Tony Donaldson.
32.30 Great move by Morley & Lovatt, but rounding the keeper may not have been the best decision, as a shot was on the cards but the cross from a tight angle went to no one.

35.30 Great low cross from the left by Oliver Ritchie, but sadly no one on the end of it. Cleared off the line.
37.30 Henri Ogunby comes on as sub for United.
38.30 Kyle Stubbs’ shot from a corner is cleared off the line!! Even he can’t believe it., & is shaking his head in bewilderment for several minutes.
44.30 0-1 !! After another great save by Slinn, United’s Tony Donaldson slides in to take the lead! Two bites of the cherry!
HT 0-1
50.05 Keeper Harry Turner under pressure, clearing off the line then saving from point-blank from Lovatt.
53.03 0-2!! Sub Henri Ogunby somehow beating the otherwise excellent Joe Slinn.
64.30 Town rain down shots on the United goal, but everything is blocked by desperate Ramsbottom defending.
75.39 Even Russo can’t break through the United wall!
Attendance 153, as a bit of argy-bargy breaks out in front of the dugouts.
79.30 Jack van Der Laan subsequently yellow carded.
90+1 Lovatt heads over in a goalmouth scramble! Not Newcastle’s day!
FT Town 0 United 2
