Officers were called to Castle Hill Road, Alton at around 10.05am this morning (December 10) following reports of a house fire.
During a search of the property, an 88-year-old woman, was sadly found deceased at the property.
Colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service examined the scene and are currently investigating.
Crews from Cheadle, Ipstones, Leek and Longton attended the scene.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is working with Staffordshire Police to investigate the circumstances around the fire. A joint fire investigation is being carried out with West Midlands Fire Service.
