Former MP Joan Walley to Speak on Burslem’s Heritage Buildings

Residents, locals and heritage enthusiasts are invited to attend the next meeting of the Burslem History Club, taking place on Wednesday 11th March 2026 at The Old Post Office, where former Member of Parliament Joan Walley will give a special talk exploring the heritage buildings of Burslem and the latest developments surrounding their future.

The talk will offer insight into the rich architectural heritage of one of the Potteries’ historic towns.

Burslem is home to a remarkable collection of heritage buildings, including landmarks such as Burslem Town Hall, Queen’s Hall, Burslem School of Art, Old Post Office Burslem and the Wedgwood Institute, along with notable interwar buildings like the former Duke William pub, and the historic Co‑operative Building in Swan Square.

During the talk, Joan Walley will reflect on what these buildings have meant to local communities and whether their preservation is realistic

Joan Walley has long been a passionate advocate for Burslem and the wider Potteries area, and her talk will share both historical context and forward-looking ideas for how heritage can play a central role in the town’s regeneration.

The meeting will take place at The Old Post Office, Wedgwood Street, Burslem. Doors open at 6.45pm, with the talk beginning at 7.30pm. Admission is £3, payable on the door.
