Art exhibition showcases work from Leek School of Art degree students

Buxton & Leek College is the proud host of ASTOUND 2023, the end of year exhibition by degree students from its BA (Hons) Creative Art & Design Practice course. The programme has run at the Leek School of Art for several years and is accredited by the University of Derby.

Leanne Cunningham, Programme Leader BA (Hons) Creative Art & Design Practice, says, “It has been both exciting and rewarding to work with this group of students over the last year, to help them form and develop their practices to this point. ASTOUND 23 marks the end of the BA(Hons) at Leek School of Art however, we look forward to the future of the Art School and we would like to take this opportunity to present the rich diversity of practices emerging from this course.

“On behalf of all the team involved at Leek School of Art, Buxton & Leek College and the University of Derby, I congratulate them.”

The exhibition celebrates and reflects the dynamic, interdisciplinary, and broad-based nature of contemporary art practice, including surface pattern design, textiles, photography, sculpture, and digital works. Four artists: Julie Holmes, from Leek, Rachel Hulme, from Stoke, Mary Muir from Orkney and Lindsey Sandland from Wolverhampton are exhibiting at ASTOUND 23 with ranging narratives that examine our relationship with nature, place, people, and the landscape, alongside explorations of identity, connectedness and wellbeing.

ASTOUND 2023 will be held in the Nicholson Gallery from Saturday 11th November until Saturday 30th December, and is open to the public from Mondays to Saturdays between 10am – 4pm.
