Biddulph school to reduce staff due to rising energy bills

A Biddulph School has written to parents informing them that cuts will need to be made to balance the budget.

In a letter sent to all parents last Thursday from Biddulph High School, the Headteacher Mrs. Robinson informed parents that the school has had to enter a period of consultation with colleagues, regarding proposed reductions as of Wednesday 25th January.

The headteacher cited increases in energy costs of over £80,000 so far this year, rising to a £140,000 increase predicted by the end of the academic year.

Although it is hoped that reductions will come through natural wastage, renegotiated trust-wide service contracts and other efficiency savings, the school said reductions in the staff wage bill were needed to offset these rising energy costs.
