Congleton Town to welcome league rivals Bury AFC in the last eight of the Isuzu FA Vase

Congleton Town will host league rivals Bury AFC in the quarterfinals of the Isuzu FA Vase.

The Bears made the quarter-finals on Saturday thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over AFC Wulfrunians, as that was taking place Bury visited Tring Athletic and came away with a 2-1 victory.

Bury AFC was formed in December 2019 following the EFL’s decision to expel Bury FC from League One in the August of that year as they failed to show proof of its financial viability. They won the North West Counties First Division North last season and, currently sit 5th in the NWCFL Premier Division three places ahead of the Bears.

In fact, the two teams are due to meet tomorrow night at the Cleric stadium in the league, so no doubt it will be a dress rehearsal for the big game.

The tie will take place on Saturday 11th March with the game kicking off at 3pm.

After the draw was made, I caught up with Congleton player-manager Richard Duffy to get his reaction to the draw.
