We have many brilliant musical groups in the Moorlands and I have already featured some of them. This week, for my 47th Reason to Visit the Moorlands, I am delighted to highlight the Biddulph Ukulele Group.
I first got to know this fantastic group back in 2018 when I starting holding Staffordshire Moorlands Senior Tea Dances. These free afternoons are an opportunity for people to come together with old friends and make new acquaintances. Around 90 local residents came along to the first Tea Dance and enjoyed the tea and cakes and the amazing music performed by the Biddulph Ukulele Group. They really added to the occasion by dressing up in 1940s and 50s costumes.
I am so grateful to the Biddulph Ukulele Group for their support and know that everyone who came along, whether dancing or singing or just sitting listening to the music, really enjoyed their performance.
Since the first Tea Dance in 2018, I have hosted other Tea Dances in both Biddulph and Leek as well as a virtual one during the pandemic, all with music provided by the group. We have had different themes such as Rock and Roll and Christmas and the group always enter into the spirit of the occasion, with costumes and music to match.
The Biddulph Ukulele Group started back in 2013 for beginners. The group is for all ages and abilities and they meet on a Thursday evening at The Barley Mow Pub, Church Road in Biddulph from 7.30pm.
They have played at many events including Red Nose Day, the Jubilee, charity events and also an event at the Town Hall where part of the audience came from Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Lancashire as well as guests from Canada and Hawaii.
