Family Fun Day at Tittesworth Water to mark 60th anniversary of the raising of the dam wall

Staffordshire families looking for a great, affordable day out are invited to Tittesworth Water for a Family Fun Day on 22nd August.

Running from 10am to 3pm, the day includes loads of free activities and demonstrations, from blacksmithing and dry-stone walling to chainsaw carving and duck herding!

The event is being held to mark the 60th anniversary of the raising of the dam wall in 1963 to create the current reservoir which supplies water to homes in parts of the Staffordshire Moorlands, Stoke-on-Trent and Leek.

There will be live music throughout the day and stalls from local companies selling locally produced goods. A huge choice of food and drink will also be available from our onsite café. People will also be able to try their hand at learning circus skills, pick up tips on perfecting their nature photography and watch demonstrations from the Severn Trent volunteer rangers on woodworking and green wood craft.

Moorlands Radio will be broadcasting the Tony Mullins Mid-Morning Show live from the event.

Other organisations attending on the day will include Staffordshire Fire Service, Moors for the Future with their Bogtastic Van, Severn Trent’s education bus, the RSPB, Trent Rivers Trust and Churnet Valley Farmers.

Donna Marshall, Visitor Engagement Manager at Severn Trent, said: “This is going to be an absolutely fantastic event and a great day out for all the family, showcasing some fantastic local craftspeople and traders. There will be loads of free activities including circus skills, our fab education team, bouncy castles and lots of opportunities for visitors to try their hand at new things!

“The first dam was built in the 1850s, with the dam wall raised to its current height in 1963 to make provide plenty of water to people in the region. Since then, Tittesworth has become one of our most popular visitor sites, attracting people from all around who are looking for a great day out.

While there will be no charge for most activities, a minimum four-hour parking charge of £5.50 will apply.
