Karen Bradley MP – Weekly Update (20th March 2023)

Many of you write to me with your concerns about potholes and the state of our roads and it was for this reason that I started my Report A Pothole campaign. I was therefore pleased that The Chancellor committed to £4,456,400 in his Spring Budget to fix potholes in Staffordshire, increasing road safety for motorists.

We have so many fantastic local pubs in the Moorlands. I know just how hard the hospitality sector has suffered due to the pandemic and welcome the announcement in the Budget to freeze Draught Relief from 1 August to freeze the duty charged on a typical pint of beer in the pub, ensuring that duty in a pub will always be lower than in a supermarket.  Recognising the vital role our hospitality sector plays in growing the economy, the Draught Relief announced will benefit 3,485 venues across the West Midlands and help our pubs to prosper.

Amongst other measures announced last week, many of you will welcome the 30 hours of free childcare the Government is providing to working parents of children aged 9 months to 4 years old. This will deliver the biggest shake up in childcare provision since 2017, helping more people across the Moorlands with the cost of living and into work to grow our economy.

These reforms will deliver for 1,481 families across the Staffordshire Moorlands with children aged 9 months to 4 years old.

The Government is also providing further cost of living support to individuals by maintaining the Energy Price Guarantee at £2,500 for a further three months from April 2023 and to support motorists, the Government will extend the 5p cut in fuel duty for twelve months and not proceed with the planned inflation increase.
