Karen Bradley MP – Weekly Update (24th July 2023)

On Saturday 29th July we see the return of the annual Leek & District Show – an event that I and my family have enjoyed going to for many years and this year, my week 8 of A Year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands.

Each week, I will be focusing on one of the many Reasons that people enjoy the Moorlands and encouraging everyone to share their experiences and photos of that Reason on my Year of Reasons Twitter page @VisitMoorlands.

The Leek & District Show has taken place since 1932. Many will remember it being held on Birchall playing fields, but the pandemic and various issues means that it has now moved to Dunwood Fields, in Longsdon.  There is ample on-site parking as well as lots of space for livestock, handicrafts, farriers, show jumping and much more.  A full day’s entertainment starts at 9.30am on Saturday.

The Show is a fantastic reason to visit the Moorlands – it is a real celebration of our rural life and I am always honoured when asked to present prizes to some of the very worthy winners.  I love visiting the many exhibits including the flower show, the arts and crafts, the vegetables and of course the magnificent livestock and shire horses.  It’s also good to catch up with the NFU and the Churches Together tea makers, amongst others, and to see the many local businesses displaying their products.

Looking back at previous years, I have so many great photos – we have had rain and absolute downpours but nothing can dampen the fun and excitement of this very special event.

So do come along on Saturday and join in the fun. The Leek & District Show is well worth a visit and I hope that many of you will support this fabulous Reason to visit the Moorlands.
